Control Arms Concert Wednesday Night In NYC With Angelique Kidjo, More...

Control Arms, a joint campaign by Oxfam and Amnesty International calling on governments to take more action to stop the spread of weapons in communities around the world, is holding a concert Wednesday night, right in the middle of the United Nation's week-long "Review Conference to Combat The Illicit Trade In Small Arms And Light Weapons".

Control Arms has scheduled many events in NYC to help educate UN delegates and the public-at-large about how important it is to create a global Arms Trade Treaty to help save lives wherever gun trade exists, and this concert is one of the highlights.

The concert will feature performances by:
Angelique Kidjo
-Three time Grammy nominated African world music star

Zola
-South African Kwaito (South Africa's hip-hop) legend, as heard in the 2006 Academy Award winning Best Foreign Language Film of the Year, "Tsotsi". (great bio with music by The Suburbs Are Killing Us here).

Alma Parlantes
-Band lead by Colombian musician/artist Cesar Lopez, featuring instruments made from actual discomissioned weapons.

...and specially recorded music and video pieces by Gorillaz, Snow Patrol, Black Eyed Peas, Jack Johnson, and Desmond Tutu throughout the evening.
