Mark Hamilton of Ash..Big on Colbert, Brand New, Muse, and Reading '08

Perhaps the best gig I saw this year was the mighty Ash at The Annex in October. I'd seen them before, but never in such an intimate room, nor as a three piece. They were awesome...flat-out awesome.

Ash are currently holed-up in NYC putting the finishing touches on their next album, due for release in the spring. Word is that there may be another show or two in the New York area in the new year as the band looks to sure-up their live legs for extensive touring behind the new music.

Ash bassist Mark Hamilton took time off from tuning up the band's MySpace and Bebo sites to give us his year-end list, which probably took his mind off Aston Villa's forthcoming four-match-in-ten-days holiday run for a minute or so:

1. What was your favorite song of 2006?

- Sowing Season (Yeah) by Brand New. Pure genius

2. What was your favorite album of 2006?

- Muse - Black Holes And Revelations

3. What was your favorite live show of 2006?

- Muse at Hammerstein Ballroom NYC or at Reading Festival.

4. What was your favorite thing about 2006?

- The emergence of Stephen Colbert as a major political force.

5. What is your biggest wish for 2007?

- That the new Ash album is both a smash hit world wide and critically acclaimed. We go on a sellout tour the world that leads to us headlining Reading in 2008. That sounds pretty nice...
