Bid on an Apples in stereo/Steve Keene Custom Guitar to Benefit Housing Works

Two things that I love very much happen to be The Apples in stereo and The Housing Works Bookstore Café in Manhattan. When the following press release showed up, I knew I had to post it:

The Apples in stereo and Elijah Wood Support Housing Works Bookstore Café with Custom Guitar AuctionAcclaimed Outsider Artist Steve Keene Lends A Hand...One-of-a-kind First Act Guitar to be Auctioned

(New York, NY): Housing Works Bookstore will be holding an online benefit auction of a custom guitar - painted by outsider folk artist Steve Keene, signed by Elijah Wood and The Apples in stereo, this First Act electric guitar will be auctioned off from July 8 to August 5, to benefit Housing Works, Inc.

Steve Keene, the acclaimed outsider folk artist residing in Brooklyn, New York, a longtime friend and band collaborator is noted for being perhaps the most prolific artist in history, creating and selling hundreds of thousands of art pieces over the course of his career. Keene has also collaborated with musicians on numerous high-profile album art packaging projects including his longtime association with The Apples in stereo and Pavement.

The Apples in Stereo will appear on the Colbert Report August 4, playing songs off their new release, Electronic Projects For Musicians (Yep Roc/Simian/Elephant 6) which contains the viral phenomenon "Stephen, Stephen," a song written by lead Apple Robert Schneider in honor of Stephen Colbert and performed on The Colbert Report's 2006 series finale. Elijah Wood, Proprietor of Simian Records and supporter of the mission of The Housing Works Bookstore Café, started Simian with the signing and release of The Apples in stereo’s "New Magnetic Wonder" in 2007. This custom Keene-painted, one-of-a-kind guitar is Woods’ and The Apples in stereo’s joint effort to not only raise awareness and contribute to the continuing mission of The Housing Works Bookstore Café.

The auction is live right now, and we've gone ahead and bid the first $100 to get the ball rolling. Check it out here: http://www.housingworksauctions.com/apples/
