The Phoenix Foundation Playing Three Gigs In NYC

A Kiwi friend has been sending me mp3's of a really fine band called The Phoenix Foundation for the last few months...and I was surprised to find out this morning that they have scheduled a handful of American dates, including three in NYC:

Thursday, June 8th
Pianos
158 Ludlow
7:30pm

Friday, June 9th
The Cake Shop
: Sentimentalist Party
156 Ludlow
9pm

Saturday, June 10th
Mercury Lounge
217 East Houston
10:30pm

A six-piece from Wellington, these guys are self-releasing teir debut ‘Horsepower’ in the US on their own Caravan Records on 12 September. Their music is kind of a melancholy pop...sort of a Travis meets Lemonheads sound that is catchy as hell, but they also don't mind getting all headphoney and instrumental when they need to. I'm really anxious to hear for myself what they sound like live.

Here are a couple tracks to help you jump on the bandwagon...I'm drivin'.
